Why Machebeuf?

Your Opportunity

Small classes. Faculty who love to teach. The excitement of new ideas. Working closely with faculty and your fellow students, you will discover what it means to become an active learner and take responsibility for your own education. This is what you will find as a student at Machebeuf.

A National Reputation

Machebeuf takes great pride in being the only Catholic high school in Colorado to garner a national reputation as an academic community of faith. Over the course of the past four years, Machebeuf has been recognized as one of the Top 50 Catholic High Schools in the United States by the Acton Institute's Catholic High School Honor Roll. Machebeuf was selected for this honor based on our academic excellence, faith formation, and civic engagement. This honor is a credit to our students, faculty, staff, and larger community who continue to advance the mission of Bishop Machebeuf High School. Obtaining this honor has placed us amongst the top of 1300 Catholic high schools in the country for 2006, 2007, and 2008-2009.

Points of Pride

Center for Academic Resources

A low student-to-counselor ratio allows us the opportunity to better support the individual academic, emotional, social, and college counseling needs of our students.

Computer Science

The Freshman Computer Applications course ensures all students gain equal exposure and practice with the technology they will need at Machebeuf, in college, and in the real world. Class sizes are fewer than 20 students per class.

Library

The library has over 8,500 books, over 30 magazine and newspaper subscriptions, more than 300 videos and DVDs, online database subscriptions, and 20 computer terminals for student use.

English

In 2008-2009, Machebeuf students averaged higher than Colorao students in English, Reading, and for the overall Composte Score on the ACT:
English: 21.6 (Machebeuf) vs. 20.1 (Colorado)
Reading: 22.9 (Machebeuf) vs. 21.1 (Colorado)
Composite: 22.0 (Machebeuf) vs. 20.8 (Colorado)

Foreign Language

Machebeuf is able to offer our students three foreign languages with four full levels available in each. The majority of Machebeuf students exceed our Foreign Language graduate requirements and college entrance requirements for Foreign Language by continuing their studies into their Junior and Senior year.

Mathematics

Algebra 1 class sizes are kept small, with an average class size of 16. For our upperclassmen, 86% of last year's students taking the AP Calculus Test passed. Of the students who passed the test, half earned the top score of 5.

Performing Arts

With two formal productions a year and other subsequent performances, BMHS provides a comfortable venue for students to display their talents in Performing Arts. Performances of masters such as Handel, Beethoven, Gershwin, Shakespeare, Dickens, Austen, and many more are standard. BMHS is proud of the spirited and oustanding performance given by the students each year. Standing room only! Graduates of BMHS have gone on to study both Music and Film as careers.

Science

Students are able to participate in such special programs as the CU Medical Campus visitation, CU Medical School of Nursing - Technological Bridge, Colorado/Wyoming Junior Academy of Science, School-to-Work Medical Shadowing, Program and Veterinary Shadowing Experiences, and the CU Medical - Pathological Study of Tissues.

Social Studies

Machebeuf students consistently score high (4-5 out of 5) on the AP World History and AP US History exams. Students demonstrate a genuine love and intellectual curiosity for the subject matter. Students experience debates, activities, projects, presentations, and discussions.

Visual Arts

At the 2008 Catholic Schools Art Show, nine students were recognized, including Best of Show. At the 2009 Catholic Schools Art Show, fourteen students were recognized. Also in 2009, Machebeuf student Angel Ibarra won 3rd Place at the Congressional Art Show. Machebeuf student Monica Beckman was one of thirty finalists in the 2009 Lucerne - The Art of Dairy Art Contest. Monica painted her design on a life-sized plaster cow.

Theology

Students experience a four-year systematic track in Theology. Machebeuf students are ranked in the higher score level on the national Catholic High School ACRE test. In the last ten years, eight of our students or staff have entered religious life: four young women have taken their vows or are in formation as consecrated religious, and four young men are in the seminary. Dozens of others are serving the Church as teachers, DRE's, and religious educators.
