International Student Admissions

Thank you for your interest in Bishop Machebeuf High School.  Our school supports a diverse community of motivated learners, including those from around the globe.  International students who submit a complete application may be considered for admission.  Since Machebeuf does not offer an English Language Learners (ELL) program, international applicants should have a high English speaking, writing, and reading ability so as to successfully complete their coursework in a mainstream classroom.

Bishop Machebeuf High School is a private school for grades 9th -12th and is one of the schools within the Archdiocese of Denver.  As such, Machebeuf is on the list of approved schools for the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP).  The Archdiocese of Denver generates an I-20 through SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System) on behalf of Bishop Machebeuf High School.

Due to the time spent both processing an application to Machebeuf and applying for an F-1 Visa, international students are encouraged to begin the process several months prior to their estimated date of entrance.  International students typically enter Machebeuf at the beginning of the Academic Year in August.

We encourage students to work with an exchange program in order to simplify the application process both for admission to Machebeuf and for an F-1 Visa.  Exchange programs are also able to assist international students with finding host families in the event that a student does not have a relative or temporary guardian in the Denver Metro area.  International students under the age of 18 are considered a minor in the U.S. and must therefore stay with a host family if attending Bishop Machebeuf High School.  Bishop Machebeuf High School does not arrange for host families for international students.  An exchange program or international student placement coordinator can be very helpful in finding a host family in the Denver Metro area.

Bishop Machebeuf High School will consider applications for a semester or year exchange but gives priority to those international applicants seeking a high school diploma.  We will consider international student applications for 9th, 10th, or 11th grades.  International students applying for 10th or 11th grades are able to transfer credits from their prior school towards their Machebeuf diploma pending the approval of the Admissions Committee.  In order to receive a high school diploma from Bishop Machebeuf High School, students must fulfill our graduation requirements.  Since we are a college preparatory high school, completion of our graduation requirements and obtaining a high school diploma from our school can be advantageous to students hoping to attend a college or university in the United States.

Criteria for Admission for International Students

The criteria for admission for an international student mirrors the criteria used in evaluating all of our applicants.

In addition, please note:

  • All transcripts, teacher recommendations, or other parts of the application not written in English must be translated into English prior to submission.  Original documents written in a non-English language must be submitted with their English translations.
  • All international applicants must provide a recent TOEFL or SLEP test score result along with a copy of the original scored answer sheet for verification.
  • All international applicants are required to have a personal interview once all application materials have been received.  Phone interviews can be arranged for students unable to get to campus.

International Student Enrollment

After an international student has completed their application process and gained admission to Machebeuf, the student must then complete the Enrollment process.  This process requires submitting additional materials that include but are not limited to: Enrollment fees in U.S. dollars, Tuition Contract, Immunization Form, Proof of Health Insurance, Proof of Funds, Host Family contact information, and Registration forms.

Upon completion of the Enrollment process, the Archdiocese of Denver may generate an I-20 on behalf of Bishop Machebeuf High School.  Students approved through SEVIS for an I-20 must schedule a Visa interview with their local U.S. Embassy or Consulate in order to be granted an F-1 Visa.
