Students at Machebeuf will take English courses that provide the following content:

Objectives
1. To invite each student through the study of literature to encounter Jesus Christ, the incarnate Word of God, and to deepen his or her relationship with Him and the Church.
2. To develop the ability to critically read, understand, and analyze various literary genres: non-fiction prose, poetry, drama, short stories, and novels.
3. To understand the history of British and American literature and how each reflects the events, ideas, and philosophies of the times.
4. To deepen the ability to write clear, organized, and compelling essays.
5. To utilize the research process as a means of acquiring secondary sources of information for exposition or argumentation.
6. To focus on improving grammar, syntax, and usage.
